The government in a letter to the Vice Chancellors, Rectors and Provosts of the institutions signed by the Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Abimbola Adekanmbi entitled ‘Stoppage of Subvention’ and dated September 20 said it would not be able to continue with the grant of subventions to them.

The letter marked HCF/Corr. Gen./23 dated September 20 read in part, “we refer to discussions the government has held with you in the recent past on the subject of subventions.”

“We write to inform you that the state government is unable to continue with the grant of subventions to your institutions. Please, note that there are no areas or financial obligations past, present or future arising from this decision of government.”
